Knicks vs. Hawks Game 6 Prediction (Thursday, April 30th, 2026)
The New York Knicks stole momentum back from the Atlanta Hawks with a clutch game five win. Now they’re one win from moving onto the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
Atlanta might still have something to say about that, of course. Game six sees the series shift back to Atlanta, while the Hawks initially built a 2-1 series lead before dropping the last two games.
DraftKings has the Hawks coming in as slight 2.5-point underdogs despite playing on their home floor. Bettors have to gauge if they’re a solid bet to force a game seven, or if they’ve already breathed their last breath in this postseason run.

Recent Performance & Trends
New York Knicks
The Knicks worked their way to the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference, going 53-39 on the year. They’ve displayed a solid offense, play at a slower pace, and lean on strong defense.
That’s made them a formidable out all season long, but offensive lulls and their tendency to allow teams to hoist form long range at will have both plagued them in this series.
New York fell into a surprising 2-1 hole, but managed to bounce-back and win the last two games. They’ll now have a chance to finish off the Hawks on Thursday night, but a middling 22-19 road record could make that a challenge.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks were one of the fun surprises this year, as they turned what looked to be another lost season around and won 46 games. A late-season surge and improved play following the trade of superstar Trae Young led to the 6-seed, as well as the unleashing of new franchise cornerstone, Jalen Johnson.
While Johnson has shown himself to be a stud with a high ceiling, he hasn’t made a lasting impact in this series. Instead, it’s been C.J. McCollum who has torched the Knicks, as he’s been part of a feisty perimeter offense that has kept New York guessing on the outside.
McCollum has kept the Hawks in most of the games in this series, and he’ll likely need to be on point from deep yet again if Atlanta wants to force a game seven.
Head-to-Head / Historical Context
The Hawks and Knicks have a rich history, having met 399 times in team history. Atlanta holds a 204-195 lead in the regular season series, while the Knicks have had the upper hand lately.
New York won this year’s season series (2-1), and are 5-1 over the last six meetings. The Hawks played the Knicks remarkably well, however, keeping every game within at least three points.
Atlanta’s strong regular season play has translated to the playoffs, as they’re 2-3 so far in this series and have been reasonably competitive in two of the three losses. Lifetime, the Knicks hold a 12-7 advantage across 19 meetings in postseason play.
Key Matchup Breakdown
New York Offense
The Knicks run their offense through Jalen Brunson, who can excel in isolation and hurt defenses both from the perimeter and in the mid-range game. He puts up 26.1 points per game and also dishes out 6.7 assists per game.
Brunson isn’t alone, as big man Karl-Anthony Towns provides interior and mid-range scoring, and also has an effortless stroke that extends all the way out to the arc. KAT is the team’s second-leading scorer at 20 points per game and he’s been the key to this series so far for New York.
New York gets help from key players such as OG Anunoby and Josh Hart, and they collectively offer a solid offense that ranked 10th in scoring during the regular season. The Knicks share the ball decently and are a top-10 team in terms of efficiency, hitting with accuracy inside, outside, and at the free throw line.
Atlanta Offense
The Hawks push the pace much faster than the Knicks and that leads to a more dynamic and explosive offensive attack. Atlanta is led by Jalen Johnson, but his versatility has been held in check in this series due to New York’s gritty interior defense.
Johnson still finds his spots, but Atlanta leans hard on their outside game, with the likes of C.J. McCollum, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Dyson Daniels unloading from long range.
McCollum in particular has enjoyed a fantastic series and is the catalyst for an aggressive offense that launches 39.3 threes per game (9th) and hits at a 36.8% clip (6th). The Hawks are efficient and aggressive, but in this particular matchup they’re dead in the water if they can’t connect from deep.
Defense & Pace
The Knicks play incredibly slow basketball, preferring to execute their half court offense and grind defenses to a pulp. They rank 27th in pace with just 99.4 possessions per game. Atlanta is the opposite, ranking 4th in the NBA with 104.2 possessions per game.
Defensively, New York’s slow pace contributes to the league’s 5th best scoring defense, but they also still rank 7th in defensive efficiency. The Knicks are top-10 in rebounding, defend the paint at an elite level (4th), and stop teams in transition (6th).
Their biggest weakness is defending the arc, where they allow 38.3 three-point attempts (21st) per game and rank just 18th in three-point accuracy allowed.
Atlanta isn’t nearly as good on defense (18th), but they’re surprisingly efficient (10th) despite their fast pace. The Hawks don’t grade out particularly well in any one area on defense, but they do defend the perimeter decently and have some solid on-ball defenders.
Individual Matchups to Watch
- Hawks perimeter offense vs. Knicks perimeter defense: Change the record, am I right? It sounds boring, but this remains the biggest part of this matchup. The Knicks don’t allow much inside and struggle against the three. That’s where Atlanta excels, so as long as they hit from deep they’ll have a chance to hang around.
- Rebounding & Free Throw Battle: Atlanta got blown out last game because they couldn’t execute in two key categories. They only snagged 27 rebounds to New York’s 48 in game five, while the Knicks doubled them up at the charity stripe. Neither can happen with gaps that wide if the Hawks want to win tonight.
- Jalen Johnson vs. New York’s interior defense: The Hawks have had very little success taking it to the Knicks inside. If they want to win this game (and this series), however, at some point Johnson needs to find a way to get easy buckets.
Intangibles & Betting Trends
- New York is 47-41 against the spread.
- New York is 16-27 ATS on the road.
- New York is 37-33 ATS as the favorite.
- Atlanta is 46-41 against the spread.
- Atlanta is 23-22 ATS as the underdog.
- Atlanta is 22-21 ATS at home.
Betting Odds & Market Interpretation
| Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York Knicks | -2.5 (-115) | -155 | O 213.5 (-110) |
| Atlanta Hawks | +2.5 (-105) | +130 | U 213.5 (-110) |
The Knicks pull into Atlanta as almost 3-point road favorites. The pricing makes sense, as they are the better team, they won the regular season series, they’ve won two in a row, and they can win the series tonight.
The game total sounds about right, as it factors in the combination of New York’s defensive aptitude and Atlanta’s fast pace.
From a Bettor’s Lens
Going into this series I felt the Hawks were going to give the Knicks problems due to their perimeter scoring, and nothing that’s transpired has me wavering. Due to that, I love the value with the Hawks as home dogs and am all about their +130 moneyline.
Obviously the Knicks represent a killer value at -155, but I’m Team Hawks in this one. Either way, the Over looks like a fine companion bet. Win or lose, the Hawks hold the advantage on their home floor and should be able to push the pace.
They also offer a soft matchup for the Knicks and both teams can light it up from long range. The Over is firmly in play.
Keep an eye on the injury report before tip-off. Josh Hart is questionable to play due to a back injury, which could impact New York’s wing defense. Jock Landale continues to be listed as out for the Hawks.
Best Bets & Confidence Levels
| Bet | Rationale | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Hawks ML (+130) | Atlanta has been a problem for the Knicks in this series. They get home court advantage here to try to force a game seven and based on value they’re the best bet. | 7/10 |
| Over 213.5 (-110) | Every game in this series has at least come close to this total. With the game in ATL, I think the Hawks dictate the pace and we get a good amount of points. | 7/10 |
| Prop Play – Nickeil Alexander-Walker to Make 3+ Threes (-174) | The price won’t blow you away, but NAW is a strong perimeter player with 3.2 made threes per game. He’s connected on at least three makes from long range in 4 of 5 games in this series. | 7/10 |
Final Score Prediction & Closing Thoughts
Atlanta Hawks 116, New York Knicks 113
My main Knicks vs. Hawks prediction is that we get a fire fight in Atlanta. I love the value with the Hawks at +130 and think their perimeter game and home court advantage will be enough to allow them to hold serve and force a game seven.
I felt this series would be trouble for New York going in, with a full 7-game series being possible. Now that we are knocking on the door of it, I’m not about to back down, especially not with Atlanta offering elite betting value as a home dog.
New York can flip the script and win a third straight game to end this thing, but doing that on the road won’t be easy. As part of Atlanta’s plight, I’d be interested in targeting some Hawks Overs. One of the easiest clicks is NAW to hit three or more three-pointers.
Overall, the Hawks should put up a fight in this one. Even if they don’t win, I think they keep it close and contribute plenty of points to make this game compelling and nudge it to the Over.
