Polymarket US Review 2026: Legit, Fees, and Our Verdict

Polymarket US earns a 3.8 out of 5 in our review: it is the legal, CFTC-designated American arm of the world’s most famous prediction market, it charges the lowest taker fees of the two US venues, it pays makers a rebate for resting orders, and it runs the deepest politics and world-events markets anywhere. Two caveats keep the score honest: the Android app is rough, and the exchange publishes no self-exclusion or deposit-limit toolkit.

This review scores Polymarket US on our prediction-market rubric, separates it from the international crypto product it is usually confused with, walks the fee math with a chart and a calculator, verifies the current sign-up offer, and closes with who it fits. Every platform fact traces to our sourced facts ledger, verified August 17, 2026. Last tested September 2026.

Scope, before anything else

Polymarket operates two distinct platforms. This review covers Polymarket US, the CFTC-regulated exchange with dollar banking rails. The separate international platform runs on USDC with its own fee schedule and an oracle-based settlement system; none of its mechanics apply here, and none of its numbers appear in this review.

Can You Use Polymarket in the US?

Yes, you can use Polymarket in the US now, through Polymarket US: a CFTC-designated exchange (QCX LLC, designated July 9, 2025) with its own clearinghouse that launched December 2, 2025 and dropped its waitlist in May 2026 alongside a native iOS app. It is the lawful successor to the era when Polymarket was ordered to block American users, and it runs entirely on dollar rails: ACH, debit, Apple Pay, and wire, with no crypto wallet anywhere in the flow.

The distinction that answers most reader confusion: the famous Polymarket, the one whose odds screenshots fill social feeds, is the international crypto product, and it remains unavailable to US users. Same brand, different platform, different fees, different settlement. Everything scored in this review is the US exchange.

Is Polymarket US Legit and Safe?

Polymarket US is legit, and its history is the reason the question gets asked. In January 2022 the CFTC fined Polymarket $1.4 million for operating unregistered markets and ordered it to block US users; in November 2024 the FBI raided founder Shayne Coplan’s apartment during a probe of US-user access. No charges were filed, the DOJ and CFTC closed their investigations in July 2025, and ten days later Polymarket bought QCX, a CFTC-licensed exchange and clearinghouse, for $112 million. The US exchange filed its rulebook with the CFTC that November and launched compliantly in December.

The institutions that moved in are the strongest character reference the comeback has. ICE, the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, invested roughly $2 billion across an initial October 2025 commitment and a $600 million follow-on announced March 27, 2026, per its own press releases. Every position on the US exchange is fully collateralized in dollars, settlement runs under a CFTC-filed rulebook with a published market-integrity program, and unlike its rival, Polymarket US carries no comparable state-court litigation over its markets today.

Polymarket US Scorecard: How We Scored It

Polymarket US’s 3.8/5 comes from six weighted categories on our prediction-market rubric, scored from the facts ledger behind this page and approved by the Editor-in-Chief. These scores are not comparable to our sportsbook scores: a different rubric measures different things.

Pricing carries the card at 4.6: the cheapest taker schedule of the two US venues, a maker rebate that pays patient traders, zero platform fees on deposits and withdrawals, and volume-tier fee rebates for heavy traders. The categories that give it back are apps (3.4), where a 4.6 iOS rating sits beside a 2.9 Android, and trust and safeguards (3.5), where a clean federal posture is offset by the absence of any published self-exclusion or deposit-limit toolkit.

What’s New at Polymarket US in 2026

2026 is the year the US exchange grew up. The waitlist dropped and the native iOS app shipped in May; the current fee schedule, with taker fees and the maker rebate, took effect exchange-wide on July 1; and ICE’s $600 million follow-on in March took its total investment to roughly $2 billion, per ICE’s announcements. Reports also describe Polymarket seeking new capital near a $20 billion valuation, a figure we print only as reported.

Two honest updates from our own re-verification this month: the iOS app’s store rating slipped from 4.8 to 4.6 as its rating count grew to roughly 53,000, and a federal judge blocked Minnesota’s felony prediction-market ban on July 27, 2026 in a case where Polymarket stood as co-plaintiff with Kalshi and the CFTC, its main courtroom involvement to date and a defensive one.

How Trading Works on Polymarket US

Trading on Polymarket US is order-book trading: yes and no shares priced in cents, a visible bid and ask, and positions you can sell any time the market is open. Everything is fully collateralized, so the most a position can cost you is what you paid for it.

The distinctive mechanic is the maker rebate. Post a limit order and wait, and when it fills the exchange pays you a small rebate instead of charging a fee, which makes patience literally profitable. One quirk of the fee math: banker’s rounding means very small taker trades can round to a $0.00 fee.

What Can You Trade on Polymarket US?

Polymarket US lists yes/no event contracts across 7 categories:

Politics and world events remain the deepest lane, the category the brand built its reputation pricing. Sports is offered too, with a thinner menu than its rival, and it is the contested category across the industry. Settlement runs settlement per the CFTC-filed Polymarket US rulebook and market-integrity program (integrity.polymarket.us). The UMA optimistic-oracle settlement system belongs to the international crypto platform, NOT the US exchange. If the mechanics of resolution are new to you, our settlement guide walks through them step by step.

Polymarket US Fees and Funding

Takers pay a formula fee peaking at $1.50 per 100 contracts at 50 cents; resting makers are paid up to $0.31 back, per the published fee documentation as recorded in our ledger. Fees scale with how uncertain the contract is, peaking at coin-flip prices and shrinking toward the extremes. The chart shows the whole curve; the calculator below it prices your own trade, and our fees guide carries the worked examples.

Polymarket US also lists volume-based taker fee rebates starting at $250K in monthly volume. Not financial advice. 21+.

The rebate deserves its own sentence, because no US rival has one: when a resting limit order you posted gets filled, Polymarket US pays you 1.25 percent of notional back at the point of trade, per the fee documentation linked above. Combined with zero platform fees on deposits and withdrawals, a patient limit-order trader here pays the lowest effective costs in the category.

Polymarket US rebates part of your taker fees based on prior-calendar-month volume: 10 percent back from $250,000, 25 percent from $1 million, and 50 percent from $10 million, paid weekly. Irrelevant to most readers, decisive for a few; the headline rate is not always the paid rate.

The Polymarket US App, Web Platform, and Support

The store split is the widest quality gap on our board: iOS holds a 4.6 across roughly 53,000 ratings as of our August 2026 check, down from 4.8 earlier in the year, while Android sits at 2.9 across a much smaller base. The web platform is solid, and Android-first users should treat it as the primary interface. Support is Discord-first with email behind it, which is unusual for a regulated venue and worth knowing before you need help with real money.

Polymarket US operates under its federal designation with a cleaner litigation profile than its rival: no state court has ordered its markets halted as of our verification, and its main courtroom appearance in 2026 was as co-plaintiff, alongside Kalshi and the CFTC, in the successful challenge that blocked Minnesota’s felony ban in July. State-level friction still exists across the category, and access is state-dependent. We keep the per-state record, with dates and sources, in our state-by-state tracker; the CFTC’s own prediction-markets page covers the federal side, and the app’s eligibility screen is always the final word on what you can trade where you stand.

Safeguards and Responsible Trading

What Polymarket US does not publish

As of our August 2026 verification, we found no published self-exclusion or deposit-limit toolkit for the US exchange; its support resources point to the national problem-gambling helpline instead. We state that plainly rather than imply parity with venues that publish safeguards, and it is why trust and safeguards scores 3.5 on the card above.

Whatever the platform provides, the portable safeguard is your own sizing rule: event contracts expire worthless when wrong, so trade money whose loss changes nothing about your month. Two fine-print items to file with it: US accounts require full KYC (government photo ID, SSN, proof of residency), and the exchange’s tax-form issuance is less documented than Kalshi’s, which makes your own records matter more; our tax guide covers the unsettled classification question.

Polymarket US Promos and Sign-Up Offers

Polymarket US’s current new-user offer, verified August 17, 2026, is a $20 trading bonus after a first deposit of $10 or more, credited as non-withdrawable trading credits and listed as a rolling offer through December 31, 2026. T&Cs apply, and the offer reaches users through partner promo codes rather than a single house code.

Two honest notes. We do not have an exclusive GamblingSite code, so we will not pretend otherwise; and the app’s promo screen is the final authority on what is live today. For active traders the durable value is not the $20: it is the maker rebate and the volume-tier fee rebates covered in the fees section, which pay every month.

How Polymarket US Compares to Kalshi

Against Kalshi, the trade is clean: Polymarket US wins on price, with lower taker fees, a maker rebate, and free funding, while Kalshi wins on sports depth, funding rails, apps, and published safeguards.

Our Verdict: Should You Use Polymarket US?

Polymarket US earns a 3.8 out of 5 from us: the value pick of the two regulated venues. If you trade politics and world events, or you are a patient limit-order trader who wants the lowest effective costs in the category, it is the better fit, and the iPhone experience is genuinely polished.

Strengths

  • The lowest taker fees of the two US venues, peaking at $1.50 per 100 contracts
  • Makers are paid a 1.25 percent rebate when resting limit orders fill
  • No platform fees on deposits or withdrawals
  • The deepest politics and world-events markets in the field

Trade-offs

  • No published self-exclusion or deposit-limit toolkit for the US exchange
  • The Android app rates 2.9, far below the 4.6 iOS app
  • Fewer funding rails than Kalshi, with no PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App
  • A thinner sports menu and a younger order book than its rival

It is the wrong venue if sports depth drives you, if you are on Android, or if published spending guardrails matter to you, because it has none to point to. Those are the gaps between its 3.8 and Kalshi’s score, and they are structural rather than cosmetic. Within its lanes, it is an easy recommendation.

Our Verdict

Polymarket US · Rubric v2.0 (prediction-market variant) · not comparable to sportsbook scores

The value pick of the two US venues: cheapest taker fees, a maker rebate no rival matches, free funding, and the deepest politics markets, held back by a rough Android app and the absence of published safeguards.

Best for: The lowest taker fees of the two US venues; Maker rebates that pay patient limit orders; Politics and news markets

Polymarket US FAQ

The questions readers actually ask, answered from the same verified facts as the rest of this review.

Can you use Polymarket in the US?

Yes, through Polymarket US, a CFTC-designated exchange and clearinghouse that launched December 2, 2025 and dropped its waitlist in May 2026. It runs on dollar rails with full KYC. Access is state-dependent, and the app’s eligibility screen is the authority on your state.

Is Polymarket legit and safe?

The US exchange is legit: CFTC-designated, fully collateralized in dollars, with a published market-integrity program and roughly $2 billion in attributed investment from ICE, the NYSE’s parent. The honest safety caveat is that it publishes no self-exclusion or deposit-limit tools, so the spending guardrails are yours to bring.

Is Polymarket US the same as the Polymarket I have heard about?

Same brand, different platform. The famous one is the international crypto product on USDC rails, still unavailable to US users; Polymarket US is a separate regulated exchange that settles in dollars under a CFTC-filed rulebook, with no crypto anywhere in the flow.

What are Polymarket US’s fees?

Takers pay a formula fee peaking at $1.50 per 100 contracts at coin-flip prices; resting makers are paid a 1.25 percent rebate rather than charged; and there are no platform fees on deposits or withdrawals. Heavy traders get 10 to 50 percent of taker fees rebated based on monthly volume.

Does Polymarket US have a promo code?

Yes. As of our August 2026 verification, partner promo codes offer a $20 trading bonus after a $10 minimum deposit, credited as non-withdrawable trading credits, with the rolling offer listed through December 31, 2026. T&Cs apply; we have no exclusive GamblingSite code, and the app’s promo screen is the authority on the live offer.

Should I use Polymarket or Kalshi?

Polymarket US if you want the lowest fees, the maker rebate, and politics depth; Kalshi if you want sports depth, more funding options, and published safeguards. We score Kalshi higher overall on our rubric, and our head-to-head comparison weighs the whole question with sourced facts and live prices.
